Living in Harmony: a Translator who Tangos with Nature

Living in harmony while traveling

Join us for another inspiring interview, this time with Nermin Saatçioglu, a translator living in Istanbul who dances the tango and shares with us how her daily routine is centered on living in harmony.

Welcome to ARE Living’s ongoing interview series where we get to share how you ARE living!

Living in harmony with change

My routine changes all the time. Ultimately, it’s filled with the things I love: cats and parrots, yoga and tango, words and images, garden and open air, sun and moon.

Nature is part of living in harmony

Wellness is the feeling that I am one with all the universe. Most of all, it is moving in sync with nature and the universal flux. I find serenity in going out to the garden and watching plants, insects, and cats.

Late flowers bloom longer

I adore the idea of gardening, but I have no green fingers, I’m afraid. My tomato and pepper tried to survive all summer long without any fruit. Now, they bear fruits almost into winter. They are late bloomers, just like me.

One thing I love

I’m delighted by the freedom that I find in travel.

Living in harmony with food

Nourishment to me is vegetarian and homemade. I eat two meals a day, a late and long breakfast and an early dinner, always combined with huge salads.

Veggie cravings

I can’t get enough of “mücver“, vegetable patties of all sorts. The last recipe I made is a very simple one: I fried onions and potatoes with lots of spices, then added white cheese. (Our stomachs are growling, Nermin!)

Living in harmony with movement

I love yoga, trekking, and  dancing, but I think what I love the most is swimming in the sea for hours. Most importantly, it’s because it’s like meditation and I feel like I turn into a sea creature.

Coffee or tea?

I am a tea person though I drink much less of it than in my youth.

One word that describes who I AM

An axolotl. (ARE Living adds: this curiously beautiful creature is an amphibian salamander.)
